Tornadoes Strikes the UK
It appears that the UK suffered bad weather from as many as moderate to strong five tornadoes on Monday. Is this usual? From the article I would say that tornadoes in the UK aren’t that unusual since in 2006, 200 properties were damaged with insurance payments of 350,000 pounds and that these storms are not expected to reach this level. Question to raise, but almost afraid to say, Is it from Global Warming? I’m sure some will say it is.

UAW Strikes GM
For the first time since 1970 The United Auto Workers are on a nationwide strike against General Motors. UAW wants among other things better job protection while GM just wants to stay alive. It would seem to me that keeping GM alive would be in the best interest of the workers. If there’s not a GM then there’s no jobs. Of course I don’t know all of the details on the reason for the UAW to think it’s best to strike, nor why GM doesn’t want to work with the workers to get an agreement in place. Some will win and some will lose. I just hope it’s not the innocent that has to endure the lost.

Crabs in Danger
Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released a report stating that the Blue Crab is being over harvested with not as many young crabs as there has been in the past. While they say that they aren’t planning any additional regulations, they are concerned. It’s estimated that the harvest in the waters of Maryland and Virginia is 48.7 million pounds.
Here’s a thought. I don’t think there is an actual restriction on catching female crabs, although old timers will tell you that you don’t keep female crabs. Let’s put a restriction that says the females need to be put back in the bay just to see if the population won’t increase.

Baseball Down to the Wire
It’s the last week of Baseball season and while the American League has it pretty well known which four teams are going to the playoffs the National League is still wide open. The National League still has seven teams looking for just four slots. It’s going to be fun if you are a fan of baseball.

Scouts Doing The Natural Thing
I discovered this story on cnn.com about a group of missing scouts being found on Monday. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/24/scouts.missing/index.htm. The Scouts had been scheduled to return on Sunday afternoon, but they got lost in the woods and were delayed. In short they were doing what comes naturally to scouts. They were prepared, made up camp for the night and used common sense to find their way out of the wilderness. Never were they in danger, they just didn’t have a way to contact those waiting for them. There wasn’t cell coverage in the North Carolina mountains.
