The First Day of School

By Steven G. Atkinson | Aug 27, 2007

Today is the first day of school in the area where I live.  It seems to me that the last day of school was just a few weeks ago instead of the 2 1/2 months that it actually was.  Since I work out of my home office, and for me the frsat day of school is getting back to the usual.

My wife works in the school system and my son is going to be that ever misunderstood Senior.  Even though they try not to bother me, it’s almost impossible for there not to be some interruption when they are around.  It might be the, “I’m going to the store do you want anything?” quick question from my wife and then end up going with her. Or my son asking how his favorite baseball team did the day before, and I go looking at the score.  Lovely interruptions, but still out of the norm.

So for me the first day of school is quiet.  Does it get lonely.  Honestly not the first day, nor the second and by the time it does, the school week is over.

Do for all of your parents out there who have packed the kids off to school, why don’t you pour a cup of coffee, sit down put your feet up and enjoy the quiet for a few minutes.  Remember it’s only a few days until the weekend, a few months until the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays and then it’ll be June before we have time to put our feet to the ground.
