In many ways Elvis is more of an icon today than he ever was during his life. And considering how famous he was when he was alive, that’s saying a lot. His death perhaps as much to do with him being as popular today, 30 years after his death, as he was then.
I don’t call my self a fan, although I do like to listen to him. I was 19 when he died and only really remember what is called the old Elvis.
I first started listening to music with any great interest in 1970. At that time Elvis had already been around for 15 years and had had a couple of different careers. He was long past his Teeny-bopper, hit making era, and was also done his movie making portion. he was now in his concert career an dinto it full steam.
Most of my memories of Elvis was watching his old movies on TV, some of them was quite good, at least to a teenage boy, and I really did like a lot of the songs he did in them.
During the early 7o’s Elvis released a few live concert albums, and I was one of those who bought them and listen to his song. I suppose that’s why I like his older songs sung from his Live albums than the original 1950′s versions. They seem to have more pep. More Rock and Roll.
30 years after his death, many still consider him the King. I won’t disagree. I’m glad he recorded as much as he did, so that we can all say, “Long Live the King.”
On 6 Things to Consider I have posted two lists about the King.
