The Baltimore Orioles begin their 2008 regular season on March 31 in Baltimore against the Tampa Bay Rays (Devil has been removed from their name). How will they play? That’s a real good question. Will they lose more than last year? Since I don’t think that any time will lose 100 ball games, and last year the O’s lost 97, I guess you’d have to I’d think no.
But how can that be on paper they look to be a weaker team? As I said I don’t think that any team will lose 100 games. But I do think that the O’s will be one of the two worst teams in Baseball in 2008. It’ll be between them and the Giants on who’ll lose the most games. Since I think overall the American League is better than the National League I’d give the Giants a chance at winning more games, although they probably are the worst team.
The O’s will finish last in the division and probably also last in the league.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the outfield jells. Lots of people like Jones, I have yet to see him play so I won’t make a judgment, other than to say I hope he does as good as people say he can be. If he does, the Orioles outfield may be stable and not in a constant flux.
While I do like Millar on first, he deserves the job, the Orioles sure could use a power hitting, good defensive replacement in the wings to replace him in 2009 and beyond.
I still think they should keep Roberts and let him be the second baseman of today and the future.
That leaves the rest of the infield which is either getting old, Mora, and unsettled, shortstop. I sure hope that there is something in the plans for those spots.
Catcher may be ok. Hernandez for now and Weithers for the future.
Pitching is always a question, no matter the team. And many times how good the pitching is depends on the pitching coach and how the players react to him. This is all new so it’s wait and see.
