Many of us do some type of online social networking everyday. At times maybe too mcuh during the day.
Online social networking by many is thought to be MySpace or Facebook. But there are many more sites that really are nothing more than social networking.
There are forums for hobbies. I’ve discovered some for as common as railroad clubs and as unusual as Swinging sites.
Each of the major Presidential candidates have some sort of networking sites. From a report I saw today on Today, it would seem that the Obama site is more active and youth based than McCain. Many other candidates and elected officials have them as well.
And to me it’s a good thing. As long as there is information being passed to the users from the candidates or an official representative. If it’s just there for people to chat, get to know one another without official feedback, these sites really are no different than a MySpace group or as some of us older ones remember Yahoo groups.
So I thought I would pass along some of the Social Networking sites that I use.
Squidoo.com – This site is a place where people come to put together information about things they like. The pages are called Lens and the writers are Lensmasters. One of the ones I have on there is a lens about Chestertown, my hometown.
LinkedIn – This is a business networking sites, one of the better ones that I found, where you can link together with business associates and business friends.
It would seem that the Internet of 2008 is as much for social networking as it is for anything else. Think about it even visiting a blog, like this one, or your newspaper and their articles and blogs is really nothing more than another part of social networking.
