It Does Come in Threes

By | May 27, 2008

A long time ago someone told me that bad news seems to always come in threes and it sure seemed that way this weekend as it relates to the deaths of people who have brought many smiles and laughs into my life.

On May 24, 2008 we lost Dick Martin.  Martin was part of Laugh-in with his comic partner Dan Rowan.  And even though we may not have known it he made us laugh in the 70′s and 80′s as a director of episodes of Archie Bunker’s Place, Family Ties and others. He was 86. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080525/ap_on_en_tv/obit_martin

Then I heard that the wife of Bob Keane, Thelma Keane passed away on May 23, 2008.  Bob Keane is the created the Family Circus comic strip and his wife Thelma was the inspiration for Mommy.  How many of us have read that strip with a smile and said of her, My mother is just like that or I wish she was my Mom.  Thelma Keane was 82. http://www.legacy.com/Obituaries.asp?Page=APStory&Id=14426

And last night I heard of the death of Movie Director and Producer Sydney Pollack.  He directed among others, The Way We Were and Tootsie.  He also acted in bit parts in quite a few movies. Pollack was 73.  http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g3IGUlRbuhYdVZ1vkPwH2OYUgD9gD90TNVDG0
