Is It Reality?

First I’m going to say I am not a fan of Reality Shows. That is unless you term Talk Shows, such as Ellen and the Late Night shows, or Sporting Events as Reality Shows. Then again sports are played by high payed professionals so maybe they don’t really fall under the term reality.

There are a couple of Reality Shows that I have on my viewing calendar. Two of them are Survivor, the Grand Daddy and one of the first of the Reality Show Genre that began just after the beginning of the 21st century, and The Amazing Race.

And I came late to both of these show. It was 1/2 way through the first edition of Survivor , but once I started watching I was hook. For the amazing race I was even later. I missed the first couple of editions before I started watching.

This year’s Amazing Race has featured a couple of final minutes and outcomes that even after watching many editions have seemed new. Two of the contestant teams have been eliminated, not because simply by finishing last, but making mistakes that were simply stupid.

First there was Zev and Justin who lost one of their passports and quickly went from first, they were the first to arrive at the checkpoint, to last. They were good players who had a good chance of winning had they not made this one simple, and also unforgivable, mistake. Especially after last year when the Mom-Son team lost theirs.

Last week it was the fear of heights and water that sank the hopes of Mika and Canaan. Mika just couldn’t overcome her fears and was passed by the Globetrotters to be eliminated.

And once again the leg losers, the Poker Players Tiffany and Michelle, were not being able to complete a challenge.

Is it really reality? I suppose to the point of having your every move filmed and edited to fit into an hour slot, it would be called reality.
