College Football is a Mess

By | Dec 2, 2007

It seems that it’s becoming obvious that on any given week, nearly any of the top rated teams can be beaten.  With this year it’s becoming real clear, that’s it’s hard to come down to one game deciding the national champs.

Look at it, only one team has an undefeated record and many will then say that Hawaii hasn’t played anyone and that’s why.  It’s true, but they have won all of their games, even those against ranked teams.

Few teams have only one lost this year, the top of them is Oho State.  They have played good teams and beat them, so they should be ranked near or at the top.

But who’s next.  All of the better ranked teams have lost 2 or more games.  LSU lost both of theirs in Triple Overtime.  Others have lost their either early in the season or their second one this weekend in conference championship games.  I would say that if they can’t win their Conference Championship then they don’t belong in the National Championship game.  And I can’t disagree with that.

Should there be a playoff series to decide the National Championship.  When looking at this season it sure would appear so.  But doesn’t that ruin the Bowls.  Not really.  Couldn’t a couple of these playoff games be part of the Bowl series?

In many ways there are too many Bowl games as it is.

Many, if not most, of the better teams have to wait a month or more before their Bowl.  This way they play each week and things are crisp when it’s time for them to play.

Besides Saturday are made for College Football and Sunday’s for the Pros.  If the colleges keep playing on Saturday the Pros won’t feel as if it’s their obligation to play on Saturday’s in December.
