For those of you who may remember at the end of Roll Call on Hill Street Blue the last thing that the Sgt. said before his officers hit the streets was ‘Be careful out there’.
For Police Officers, especially those doing highway patrol, I’m sure that thought ring out to them everyday. Over this past weekend in Howard County, Maryland it hit home.
Officer Scott Wheeler while doing traffic patrol on Route 32 near Route 1 on Saturday afternoon of June 16, 2007 was struck by a car. Early in the morning of June 18 he died as a result of his injuries.
The report in the Baltimore Sun said that it is believed that the driver of the vehicle did not see him before he was struck.
Here it was a man was doing his job and he died because someone apparently was not paying attention as she was driving. All of us need to be more careful when we drive, to pay attention to what’s ahead.
