Is it a good idea for a blogger to comment on a subject that everyone else is commenting on. Probably not, but since this blog really doesn’t have any readers (we haven’t been posting much) would it hurt.
At first, let’s say that the NFC Championship games between the Saints and the Vikings was an interesting and one that was enjoyable to watch. But since New Orleans scored in Overtime on the first procession after the coin toss on a field goal. This kept Bret Farve and the Vikings offense off the field in Overtime without a chance.
Is Overtime fair?
Let’s put it this way, Bret Farve threw an interception late in the 4th quarter. The Vikings were close enough to try a possible game ending Field Goal to end the game. Yes it would have been a long one, but games have been won on longer ones.
So in this case I have no problem with the outcome. The Vikings could have, should have won the game.
But in general I do not think that it’s fair when the team that wins the random coin toss scores first without the other team’s offense ever has a chance.
So what would I do?
If the coin toss winner scores on their first procession with a Field Goal, I think it would only be fair for the other team to have their chance to either tie it or win it with a Touch Down. If they tie, then the first team to score afterward is the winner.
However, if the coin toss winner scores a touchdown then they would win.
Congratulations to both the New Orlean’s Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. Let’s hope that the Supwe Bowl is as exciting as the NFC Championship game.
