Climate change is already affecting planet Earth and it\u2019s important to us at Two Chimps to make sure we\u2019re part of the solution, not part of the problem.<\/p>\n

The coffee we deliver to you is sustainable and completely carbon-neutral. If you ever choose to work out your own carbon footprint, our coffee is carbon negative, \u00a0meaning you buy from us will contribute zero carbon to that calculation \u2013 we\u2019ve taken care of everything! The Road To Climate-Positive<\/h4>\n

We first started our sustainability journey in 2021. There are lots of good reasons to become carbon neutral, and for Head Chimps Andy and Laura it was simply the right thing to do. They reached out to Ecologi and began work assessing, reducing, and offsetting carbon emissions in the roastery.<\/p>\n

This is an ongoing process and begins by reusing and recycling. Currently, we\u2019ve reached the point where if you order a bag of Two Chimps coffee online, nothing will end up in your landfill bin. We use recyclable paper tape and cardboard as delivery packaging, whilst the coffee bags themselves are also 100% recyclable. Once you\u2019ve brewed your coffee, the grounds can go on your compost heap, in your garden waste bin, or sprinkled around your plants to help protect them from pests.<\/p>\n

Reduce And Offset<\/h4>\n

Alongside reducing waste, we work hard to reduce the amount of carbon we produce. This means turning off lights, standby LEDs, anything that uses electricity. When the roastery closes for the day, pretty much the only things left on are the machines that control the humidity in our coffee storage area, and the fridge in the kitchen.<\/p>\n

That which we cannot reduce on-site, we offset. To start, we calculated how much carbon we\u2019re producing to a tea. This includes the importing, shipping, roasting, packing and delivering of coffee. We then offset it. Not only have we offset our carbon footprint for the roastery, but we\u2019ve also offset it for all of us chimps too. This includes daily commutes, food wastage and energy usage.<\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

Ecologi And The First Two Chimps Forest<\/h4>\n

When we started out on this journey, we first worked with Ecologi to help us assess and offset our impact on the planet. As a result of this partnership, we\u2019ve been able to prevent of 84.67 tCO2e (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent) from being emitted through 46 verified carbon avoidance projects. These projects include wind energy generation in Taiwan and Thailand, using waste biomass to produce electricity in Chile, and preserving Amazonian rainforest in Brazil.<\/p>\n

We also funded the planting of trees. Healthy trees sequester CO2, making them climate champions from the moment they\u2019re planted. They also help to restore healthy ecosystems, sequestering and storing even more carbon in soils and plant biomass, as well as boosting biodiversity. Reforestation projects also provide co-benefits for local people, helping to promote employment, gender equality, new income streams, and improved community facilities.<\/p>\n

In total, 6,464 trees across 17 projects were planted as a result of Two Chimps and our awesome customers, subscribers and friends. We call this the First Two Chimps Forest, and you can find out more about it, along with the carbon avoidance projects on our Ecologi dashboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Positive Planet And The Next Steps<\/h4>\n

We\u2019re now into Phase Two of our sustainability journey and working with Positive Planet to achieve our aims. We\u2019ve done a full carbon audit, looking at ways we can further reduce our footprint, and formed a green team to help identify problems and roll out new initiatives. Because we\u2019re a small troop, everyone is on the green team!<\/p>\n

We\u2019re right at the beginning of this journey, and there\u2019s plenty of work to do. We\u2019re currently working towards ISO 9001 and 14001 certification. You can see the progress we\u2019re making, as well as keep track of our new offsetting projects, and check in on the Second Two Chimps Forest (at the time of writing it\u2019s already up to 1,400 trees!) on our Positive Planet dashboard.<\/a><\/p>\n
