  • Tastes Like

If you know us, you know we’re all about exploring coffees with unique and exciting flavours, and this Next Level Coffee is no exception.

We’re changing things up by moving away from the usual chocolate flavours and embracing a deliciously sticky caramelised molasses base. Complemented with sweet hints of cola and a touch of floral notes, this flavour combo is a delightful experience you won’t want to miss out on!

  • What does 'Next Level Coffee' mean?

This brew has the highest speciality score in the history of Two Chimps, and you won’t want to miss out. If you’re searching for something truly unique to transform your cup, this is it!

  • How to brew

While this coffee tastes awesome in every device, our favourites are a filter, Chemex or cafetiere.

If you want to know more, see our brew guides for making coffee.

  • Behind the scenes

This coffee was produced by Lot 20, a Kenyan company based in Kericho County. Established in 2019 by Sidney Kidbet, this company specialises in exporting and processing high-quality coffee from smallholder farmers.

In 2023, Lot 20 established a washing station named ‘Metibellion’ in the town of Ainamoi, Kericho. This facility worked directly with coffee farmers from Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Kisii, and Migori. The station became quite popular, with the number of participating farmers increasing from 29 to 50 within a year.

One of the farmers who utilises this hub is Mr. Tuei. He manages a 2-acre farm in Kunyak Ward, Kericho County. With over thirty years of experience in the coffee industry, he joined Lot 20 in 2023.

What interested Lot 20 was not just his extensive experience, but also his plantation of one of the oldest Blue Mountain coffee orchards. His trees are direct descendants of the first Blue Mountain variety planted by the settlers who settled in Kenya.

Lot 20 is eager to assist Mr. Tuei in increasing the production of this delightful Blue Mountain coffee, with the goal of recruiting more individuals passionate about reviving this classic variety that has fallen out of favour with growers in Kenya.

  • What does the score mean?

Cupping is the process used to allocate any coffee its ‘quality’ score. Here at Two Chimps, we only source and roast speciality coffee. Speciality coffee must have a score of 80 points or higher. If it doesn’t get the score, it doesn’t make the grade. See here if you want to know more about coffee cupping, or want to try it at home yourself.

  • Roasting

When it comes to Roasting, we never ‘over roast’ any of our coffees, because we never need to. We use the roasting process to highlight some of the amazing flavours and aromas that can be found within the coffee naturally.

Roasting coffee too dark hides these wonderful flavours and creates a coffee which is bitter and burnt. Because the coffee we source is of a very high quality, we can roast to highlight flavours, rather than to hide them. Our coffee is never bitter or burnt. Instead, our coffees are naturally sweet (not like two sugars sweet, just naturally sweet) and bursting with character.

Each coffee we source is amazingly individual. Some are more acidic, some chocolatey, some are even fruity. The farmers and workers across the globe work hard to produce a superb product, always trying different techniques to produce the holy grail of coffees. We feel we owe it to them, and to you, to get the most flavour and aroma from every single bean.
